Magnetic Descaler

A magnetic descaler will use a magnetic field to change the minerals found in water.  When the charge affects the ions they release from the pipes and go back into the water flow, eventually being released in the water waste.  The magnetic field can be created a few ways.  One way to get a magnetic field is to have two magnets of opposing force.  This helps to pull the ions away from the pipes.  Most of the minerals found in the water are calcium, magnesium, manganese, and iron.  The second way to create a magnetic field is by creating magnetism with electricity.
An electromagnetic descaler is going to work slightly different from a magnetic descaler.  The magnetic descaler is just the two opposing magnets.  The electromagnetic descaler is what has the electricity to create the magnetic charge.  It is imperative to realise this difference when you go out and purchase a descaler.  The electromagnetic descaler will last longer and be more effective.  First it has to have a source of electricity, which means you plug it in.  The magnetic descaler can lose magnetism over a period of time eventually losing it completely.
Based on this information your best bet is to go with the electromagnetic descaler.  It is also a relatively inexpensive option.  Most descalers with electromagnetic properties are around 130 pounds.  A water softener which is considered the most effective tool is close to three or four hundred pounds.  Water softeners also require maintenance which the descaler does not.
A descalers primary use is to inhibit limescale from ever forming.  It will also prevent limescale in the pipes, appliances, and other equipment that water flows through.  An electromagnetic descaler will improve soaps and detergent uses.  In other words the soap and detergent can be broken down by the water when there is no limescale or minerals to affect it.
The only limitation is that the water is not chemically softened.  This means the minerals are not actually removed from the water, but sent back into the water so that they can be discharged in the waste.  If you think about it, it really isn’t so much a limitation as a nicety. You do not have to worry about adding salt to the water and making it undrinkable.  Instead, water that has gone through the electromagnetic descaler is still drinkable and usable in a number of ways.
Water softeners have many limitations in that they remove calcium and magnesium to replace it with sodium.  There is also a need for regeneration and backwashing.  As you can see there are some definite benefits to magnetic descalers, especially if they are the electromagnetic variety.   Added to the options the descaler offers are the ease of use and installation.  It can be fitted without a professional, which means you save money not only on the unit but also on the installation.  The fact it does not require maintenance is a further benefit.  You should begin to see results from the descaler in as little as two weeks, but it can take up to four or six.
